I saw this on twitter and just had to share. A woman in Dubai for with her fiance got too drunk celebrating her engagement and was sexually assaulted in the toilet by one of the hotel workers. When she reported the rape she and her husband were jailed for their crime of sleeping together before marriage which is illegal in the UAE.
Now, pretty much the only way they can get out of the country is to get married there so that their crime of sex before marriage can be set aside. I guess the sex life of the victim isn't off limits in rape cases in the UAE.

'Societies' like those in the Middle East (excluding Israel) all think like that.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that Israel starts cleaning regional house, sooner rather than later. Stories like yours irritate the bejeebers out of me, and I'd like to see them reduced to one every century, not one a minute.
It is insane, but you're right, not all that surprising. What I found so interesting about this one was that this was just a couple there on vacation. Legally they shouldn't even been allowed to share the same room. I can't imagine going to another country and getting arrested for having sex with my fiance. Even if I had a fiance.
ReplyDeleteIgnorance, fear, misogyny and revenge have found a home with Islam. Anyone with half a brain might want to rethink a naive Middle East romp.
ReplyDeleteSomes friends went to Egypt a few years ago and, as much as I would love to see it, I didn't dare join them. They also told me that it would be best if I didn't go out of fear of me either getting us arrested or shot by my outspokenness or that I would cause an international incident, again with my mouth.
